Book
At the end of 2015, publishing company Business Contact launched my book “Play to win or to not lose”. Currently this book is only available in Dutch, regardless I would like to offer some information about the contents on the English version of this website.
The book gathers my more than 25 years’ experience in the media, sports, business, training and coaching worlds. Expressive personal stories from Olympic medal winners Gerard Kemkers and Ron Zwerver as well as senior executives Ariette Brouwer (Simavi), Remko Tetenburg (Melitta) and Jeroen Wels (Unilever) illustrate the “Play to Win” method discussed in the book.
The text on the cover of the book reads: “Play to Win” – everybody you ask wants to. However, in practice it proves easier said than done, mainly because “Play to Win” requires a conscious mind-set and focused behaviour. Moreover, we think we are playing to win when in fact we (as a person, team or organisation) limit our risk and instead play to not lose. Unfortunately, this mentality leads to decisively different results from the ones that in fact we want to achieve.
Anyone, who in a continuously changing world, wants to perform at his/her best level cannot stay attached to old and non-functional patterns. We have to dare to play freely based on our inner Determination, Objectives, Inspiration and Talent. With these DO IT principles as the foundation, Albert Schipperijn offers a method that helps to get more out of yourself and, of equal importance, enjoy what you are doing more.
In particular people, teams and organisations that notice they have difficulties with adapting to new circumstances and renewing themselves. In a world that never stops for change, knowing how to keep moving with the appropriate focus is a competence that more and more determines your success and your fun. As far as managers are concerned: the manager who doesn’t move will certainly not make the team move either. However, we have to deal with some fundamental barriers that stop us from taking steps to move and being open to change. The DO IT principles help make the jump from thinking to doing. If you play freely based on inner Determination, Objectives, Inspiration and Talent, then you start moving with clear focus and you actually perform better and enjoy yourself more even throughout complex times and situations. That’s why this book is interesting for anyone who wants to know more about how to perform better and enjoy more.
